Professor Xiwang Zhang

Welcome GETCO2 EMCR
Committee!

Congratulations to our EMCRs elected to the EMCR Committee!
The committee will contribute to enhancing the experience of all early-mid career researchers in the centre. The Capacity Building Committee works closely with the EMCR Committee, which will have representation in all GETCO2’s committees.

See the members and their roles on our website.

Visit to RCAST in Tokyo

In early February, a GETCO2 delegation from UQ and RMIT visited the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) at The University of Tokyo. Led by Professors Xiwang Zhang and Masakazu Sugiyama, the collaboration focuses on advancing electrochemical technologies and improving catalysts, electrolysers, and membranes for CO₂ conversion. Professor Esteban Marcellin also joined us from UQ Sustainability Hub to explore biotechnological solutions to the CO₂ challenges.

It was a successful 3-day visit that laid the foundation for a close partnership between RCAST and GETCO2. We look forward to exploring exchange opportunities for our researchers to share their expertise between our centres.
Read more about Professor Sugiyama’s vision for our partnership here.

GETCO2 Deputy Director Prof Rachel Caruso and Chief Operations Officer Dr Eloise Larsen were also welcomed by the teams of Associate Investigator Prof Hao Li and Prof Shen Ye at University of Tohoku, where Rachel presented to a large group of multidisciplinary researchers and students.

CI Workshop and UQ Node Spotlight in Brisbane

At the recent CI Workshop in Brisbane, we reviewed our research program and discussed how we embed collaboration between research themes and flagship programs.

The workshop was followed by a Node Spotlight event where PhD student Tommy Hatzimanolis, postdoctoral researcher Dr Basiram Brahma Narzary and Associate Investigator Dr Muxina Konarova presented their research.

It was fantastic to see our centre members from UQ gather and meet all our Chief Investigators across the nodes!

We wish all our new centre members a big welcome to the GETCO2 community:
  • PhD Student Mengmeng Jin, UoA
  • Node Administrator Tammika Hutton, UoA
  • Senior Research Assistant Kalyssa Sidoti, UQ
  • Casual Research Assistant Aswangga Andrikaputra, UQ
